St.Maurice School Parent Guild
The Manitoba Community Education Association plans bingo evenings for Manitoba independent schools. St.Maurice is one of about 20 independent schools in Manitoba that are entitled to participate in these events. The number of bingo evenings that each school can attend throughout the year is dependent upon the number of students enrolled at the school. Given St.Maurice’s large number of students, we are awarded the second highest number of nights. This equates to about 6 per quarter, or 24 per year. For each bingo evening we are expected to provide 2 volunteers and receive approximately $750 in return.
WHEN AND WHERE?
Bingos take place at either McPhillips Street Station or Club Regent. The times are 4:15 – 6:15 or 6:15 – 9:15. The Manitoba Community Education Association schedules our bingo times for us and provides us with that schedule every 3 months
WHAT DO VOLUNTEERS HAVE TO DO?
Bingo volunteers are tasked with selling special game cards, generally worth $1 each, to the bingo players. Casino staff provide a brief training session prior to the start of the bingo and are there throughout the night to assist with any issues. Volunteers are not expected to do anything beyond selling the special game cards. (Click here for more information)
WHAT IS THE MONEY USED FOR?
In the past, the St.Maurice Parent Guild has used the money received from the bingo nights to purchase gifts for the school, such as; carpets for the kindergarten classrooms, the projector system and theatre screen located in the gym, the outdoor electronic sign, projectors for multiple classrooms, and most recently, the heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit for the gym!
The money that we receive from the bingo nights also goes to fund the Parent Guild activities throughout the year. All of our events are either free or offered at a minimal charge to cover our costs and is not intended for the purpose of profit
WHAT HELP DO YOU NEED and HOW DO I SIGN UP?
Over the course of the year the St.Maurice Parent Guild is required to provide approximately 48 volunteers to cover these bingos. If you are interested in volunteering for a bingo (which we really appreciate!) please go to the "Volunteer Sign-up" tab on the menu above. We use signup.com to organize our dates and volunteers. Your name and email address will be entered into this sytem and you will receive notification of upcoming bingo dates which you can commit to volunteer for at that point
You can also watch our website for upcoming dates and let us know if you are available to volunteer by emailing us at email@example.com
We really appreciate our volunteer support. The money that we receive goes to fund the great supplies, projects, and activities that we have at St.Maurice School.
